Owners Patrick and Saundra Denny have put their mountain retreat on the market because they have retired. “Since we lived in West Virginia, it was only a two-and-a-half hour drive to get here. But since we retired, we moved to New York to be closer to our family and that’s a five-hour drive,“ he said. “We have friends in the area and they knew we wanted to build a home. We started looking for property and found it through Ron Lovelace (local Realtor),“ owner Patrick Denny said.
They decided upon a log house “because it fit the atmosphere and the environment,“ of the six-plus-acre property, he added.
“We looked over a period of months at various builders and then visited Mountaineer Log Cabin in Deep Creek. Our home is one of their designs.  They sold us the material and hooked us up with one of their builders.
“When we bought the lot, the place they wanted us to build was close to the road. I walked the property and found the site, which is more private and on top of the creek,“ Denny said.
“We love the location and solitude. It wasn’t just coming to the cabin, but also to the area, the Historic Summit Hotel and the various parks around. We took all that into consideration.
“Our friend, who lives in a smaller cabin, loves the area and she introduced us to Ohiopyle State Park and Nemacolin Woodlands.”
Denny added that the thing he and his wife like best about the cabin “is that it is away from the crowd and we can relax and read.” Stony Run Creek meanders along the front of the home and eventually flows into Big Sandy Creek, both fishing steams for local anglers. The property also crosses Wharton Furnace Road and abuts Forbes State Forest and other prime mountain hunting lands.
